Piero Crespo

IBBTEC, University of Cantabria, Santander, Spain

Full Professor, Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC)

Piero Crespo obtained his Ph.D degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Cantabria in 1991. He is a full professor of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) and the director of the Instituto de Biomedicina y Biotecnología de Cantabria (IBBTEC). His research has focused on the regulation of RAS-ERK pathway, in particular on how subcellular localization and signal compartmentalization affect the biochemical and biological outputs of these signalling intermediaries, both in physiological and pathological contexts, and how space-regulated effects can be exploited as antitumoral strategies. A field in which he has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in SCI journals, He has mentored 18 doctotal theses; he has been honoured by four national and international research awards; he serves in seven editorial boards and acts as reviewer for numerous scientific journals and funding agencies. His laboratory is and has been supported by numerous national and international grants.
