Esther Castellano
personal info
Dr. Esther Castellano-Sánchez is a Principal Investigator at IBMCC-CIC (Salamanca, Spain), leading the Tumor-Stroma Signaling Lab since 2018.
She obtained her PhD from the University of Salamanca, followed by postdoctoral training at the London Research Institute (CRUK). She then moved to the Barts Cancer Institute as an Early Career Researcher, where she began developing her independent research.
Her lab focuses on lung cancer, particularly KRAS-mutant tumors, exploring how tumor cells interact with the stromal microenvironment to drive disease progression and therapy resistance. A key aspect of her research is understanding the role of Cancer-Associated Fibroblasts (CAFs) and the extracellular matrix (ECM) in shaping tumor behavior, with a particular emphasis on RAS-PI3K signaling in the stroma. By uncovering the mechanisms that regulate these interactions, her work aims to develop new therapeutic strategies that disrupt tumor-stroma crosstalk and enhance treatment efficacy.
